My Story

My name is Carly, I work as a nurse in children's mental health and I am completing a Masters degree in Psychotherapy at Derby University. I am also a volunteer Trustee for local charity SV2 - Supporting Victims of Sexual Violence Ltd.

Nobody likes to talk about sexual violence or to think that it happens to the men, women and children living and working in Derby and Derbyshire. I think this is one of the reasons that generally charities such as SV2 do not attract high profile or significant donors on a regular basis as the subject matter can often be a difficult one to be associated with. SV2 supports approximately 1,000 victims of sexual violence each year so I know that the population of Derbyshire is greatly impacted by the growing epidemic of sexual violence.

SV2 is a Derbyshire wide charity commissioned by NHS England, Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner.

Services the Charity provides:

 Forensic medical examination following a rape or sexual assault

 Crisis Worker support before, during and after an examination

 Adult and Child Independent Sexual Violence Advisers providing practical support for victims and their families including support through the criminal justice system

 Support for victims of non-penetrative sexual offences such as revenge porn, sexting, etc.

 Counselling/Therapy services for women, men and Children

 Anonymous Reporting – access to services without reporting to the police

 Education work – delivering Consent workshops in schools

This November I turn 30 and I have decided to use this opportunity to organise a fundraising event in aid of SV2. I am asking for donations rather than presents for my birthday.
